Cognitive Systems Project (EU Project @ TU Darmstadt)

This EU-project (duration 4 years) is expected to start in autumn 2004)

Wearable Computing Project (ETH Polyproject @ ETH Zurich)

This polyproject (duration 3 years, 2001 - 2004) is a joined effort of several departments of ETH including the EE and the CS department. The interdisciplinary project (full name: Miniaturized Wearable Computing Technology and Applications) aims to bring the vision of wearable computing closer to reality. To this end it exploits the expertise of participating ETH departments in the areas of microsystems, electronic packaging, computer architecture and image recognition. The aim of the project is to create a comprehensive solution simultaneously addressing most of the current shortcomings of wearable computing. It is focused towards a demonstrator application with a strong public appeal that is ambitious to the extent of being on the edge and potential commercial spin-offs.

Cognitive Vision Systems (EU project @ ETH Zurich)

This European project has started on May 1st 2001 and will last for 36 months. The objective of the project is to develop methods and techniques that enable to construct truly cognitive vision systems. In the context of an embodied agent such vision systems should be able to perform categorization and recognition of objects and events in a task-oriented manner and in realistic environments. The functionality will, for example, enable construction of mobile agents that can interpret the action of humans and interact with the environment for tasks such as fetch and delivery of objects in a realistic domestic setting.
