Travel Information

Getting to Darmstadt

By plane: TU-Darmstadt is about 30 minutes from Frankfurt Airport by the airport shuttle (price ~7€; tickets in the bus). The bus drops you right to the Darmstadt main train station. You can get to the institute by tram in a few minutes as described below. The Taxi from the train station to the lab is about 8 Euros. A taxi from Frankfurt airport would be 40 Euros or more. Far easier to take the Airport Bus from the airport.

By train: The main train station is located at the outer edge of the city centre. See below for details how to get from the station to the lab.

By car: By car you will reach Darmstadt via Autobahn A5 or A67. Exit the Autobahn at Darmstädter Kreuz and follow the signs "Darmstadt Mitte". You will go east on Rheinstrasse. Follow Rheinstrasse and take the underpass. Exit the underpass to the left and keep left as you go through the traffic light. Go through the next traffic light and follow the main road which turns left. After the turn, follow the signs on the right into the underground parking "Schlossgarage", which is already very close to the lab (approx. 300m).

Getting to the Lab

The CS Dept. is located in the Piloty Building (S2|02) in the garden area of Herrngarten. Our lab is close to the entrance.

 Here is a map that shows our location within the centre of the city. Note: S2 | 02 is the big E-shaped building on the edge of the garden (detailed map).

From the train station take tram 3 towards "Lichtenbergschule" and get off at "Willy-Brandt-Platz". Continue straight across the street, the tracks will turn left and right, but follow the street straight ahead and you will enter Herrngarten after about 100 m. Just continue straight ahead and cross the garden and we are located on the other side in the big white building. This map shows the city centre, with the train station on the left and the university on the right. It is quite possible to walk the whole distance, should take about 25 minutes.

Note that if you came with the airport shuttle, that ticket is valid for one ride inside Darmstadt and that you do not have to buy another ticket to get to the University. Also, you can buy the shuttle ticket for going back straight at the tram stop. Press the button "Airliner" on the ticket vending machine.
